Accra is a remarkable capital of Ghana that is situated on the Atlantic coast of West Africa. It provides its visitors with a richness of art and anthropological sites. It is a home to many Mausoleums and other places dedicated to art. One can find impressive artifacts at such places. There is the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and Museum that is dedicated to one of the most eminent Ghanaian leaders Kwame Nkrumah who was the first president of Ghana. Likewise, there is Jamestown which again is a spot fit for those of us who want to explore. One can explore the rich historical background of Ghana and so much more. Then comes the vibrant Makola Market which is known for its local African delicacies. Other such places of interest include Independence Arch, Osu Castle, and Jamestown Lighthouse. Furthermore, there are Accra beaches where one can relax. Labadi beach, which is one of the busiest of the area, is one such place. Here several musical nights and other such events are organized. This beach is managed by the local hotels, and the tourists who do not wish to stay a night in these hotels are required to pay an entrance fee.
Recently, Accra has been developed into a safe place for tourists. However, it would not hurt if one takes some precautionary steps just to be on the safe side. Like any other place, there may be a risk of petty crimes and to avoid such an encounter, it is recommended not to wander around with a large amount of cash. Moreover, it is better to stick to places known intended for tourism and be alert as pickpockets and snatchers roam around places like the beaches, ATMs and the airports. Also, one is advised to first confirm a driver’s identification when being picked from the airport.
Generally, the climate in the city of Accra is warm and humid all year round. It has two sorts of rainy seasons: the first such season being in between April and July and the second one being in the month of October. March, generally, is regarded as the warmest of the months while August is viewed as the coldest. Overall, the temperatures do not fluctuate much; it stays around mid-70s (F) throughout the year.
Renting a car and then exploring the city of Accra around can be really good for those who want to save on this trip. Bigger rent-a-car companies have the head offices at renowned hotels like at Labadi Beach. Going around in taxis can be another convenient way, however, one should negotiate the fare beforehand. Then there are public minibusses which are called ‘Tro-trees’ which are cheap but they are often slow and over-packed.
